Kang Seul Gi (born on February 10, 1994), commonly known as Seulgi, is a South Korean singer born in Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. She is the main dancer of girl group Red Velvet which debuted in August 2014.


2007-14: Pre-debut activities as an SM RookieEdit

Seulgi was recruited in 2007 by S.M. Entertainment as a trainee trough one of the SM Saturday Open Auditions. In December 2013 she was introduced to the public together with fellow Red Velvet member Wendy and Irene as SM Rookies. [1]

In July 2014 Seulgi was featured on labelmate Henrys song "Butterfly which appears on his second mini album Fantastic. She also appeares in the music video for it's title track "Fantastic".[2][3]

2014-present: Red Velvet and solo activitiesEdit

Seulgi was revealed as a member of S.M. Entertainments new girl group Red Velvet in summer 2014 alongside fellow SM Rookie member Irene and Wendy. She debuted in Red Velvet on August 01, 2014 with the single "Happiness".

In January 2015, she starred with other S.M. Entertainments artist in the hologram musical "School Oz", portraying the lead role of Dorothy.[4] From April to May Seulgi appeared as a long-term guest on JTBCs variety show "Off To School".[5]

In July 2016 she released her first soundtrack song with bandmate Wendy titled "Don't Push Me" for the soundtrack of the KBS2 drama "Uncontrollably Fond".[6] Seulgi stunned the public eye when she appeared on "King Of Mask Singer" as "Cinema Heaven". In an interview after her appearance she thanked everyone for their positive reactions and stated that she will "strive to become a singer who can have even more courage and enjoy the stage."[7]

On January 22, 2017 Seulgi collaborated with Super Juniors Yesung on the song "Darling U" for SM Station.[8]
